Dick Fox's Golden Boys returns to Ruth Eckerd Hall featuring three of the most popular teen idols of the ‘50s and early ‘60s Frankie Avalon, Fabian and Bobby Rydell on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at 2 pm. Tickets go on sale Saturday, September 22 at noon.
The Golden Boys spotlight all-time greatest hits Venus, De De Dinah and Bobby Sox to Stockings (Avalon); Volare, Wild One and Kissing Time (Rydell); Turn Me Loose, Tiger and I'm A Man (Fabian) along with tributes to the material of Elvis Presley, Bobby Darin, Rick Nelson and more.
The Golden Boys, performing together in packed venues throughout the country since 1985, unite Frankie Avalon, Fabian and Bobby Rydell, three exciting performers who emerged from the same South Philadelphia neighborhood at the same time and went on to become world-renowned personalities. Countless TV appearances including a Golden Boys PBS special have generated a vast audience of fans. Highlights of the fun-filled show include a segment of rare footage from the Bandstand era and a dance contest that encourages audience participation.
An overnight singing sensation and film star with more than 30 films to his credit, Fabian Forte was actually discovered at the age of 14, sitting on his front steps in Philly. By the time he was 18, he had recorded dozens of hit singles, eight albums and earned gold records for Turn Me Loose and Tiger and a gold album for The Fabulous Fabian. One of America's most popular entertainers, Frankie Avalon went from ‘50s teen idol to international star with smash hits such as Venus, one of the best-selling hits of the era. In addition to his popularity as a top recording artist, Frankie became a motion picture star, appearing in the movies The Alamo and Grease. From his debut in the late ‘50s as a rock and roll teen idol with tunes We Got Love and Forget Him, to starring roles in hit films Bye, Bye, Birdie, the musical West Side Story, as well as countless network television appearances on shows such as The Ed Sullivan, The Red Skelton Show and American Bandstand, it's easy to see that Bobby Rydell's career encompasses every area of the entertainment world.
With resumes like these, this fabulous trifecta is sure to put on a great show!
