We are so proud of all our current and past students at the Marcia P. Hoffman Performing Arts Institute. Here are a few students that have gone on to make names for themselves in the performing arts industry.
Calvin Royal, recipient of the 2006-2007 Ruth Eckerd Hall Dance Scholarship, began his association with the Hoffman Institute as a dancer in Ruth Eckerd Hall's production of The Chocolate Nutcracker. He went on to become a member of the senior company and a soloist in the last three of his eight years with the production. As a junior in high school at the Pinellas County Center for the Arts, Calvin was awarded the Walker's Shining Stars Scholarship. In that same year he was asked to attend the American Ballet Theater (ABT) in New York City. Since joining, Calvin has appeared in the ABT performances of Natalia Makarov's La BayadereThe Sleeping Beauty. Though Calvin has been accepted at Juilliard, he has decided to stay with ABT and further his training and experiences with ABT for the time being.
Billy Norris, a native of Seminole, Florida, was the recipient of the 2005-2006 Ruth Eckerd Hall/Clearwater Jazz Holiday Jazz Scholarship. Billy is currently on an international tour with J Records Platinum recording artist Gavin DeGraw as Gavin's lead guitarist and background vocalist. Prior to touring with Gavin, Billy completed three years of the Jazz Program at Manhattan School of Music in New York City pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Jazz (Bass) Performance and studying with bassist Harvie S and drummer John Riley. Billy began his amazing musical journey as a student of the jazz program at Ruth Eckerd Hall and returned to perform as a guest artist with the Ruth Eckerd Hall/Clearwater Jazz Holiday Youth Jazz Band at the Clearwater Jazz Holiday Festival in 2008.
