Ruth Eckerd Hall, Inc. Has Record Breaking 2016-17 Season And Announces 2017-18 Season Schedule Including More Than 150 New Shows Across Tampa Bay!

Zev Buffman, President and CEO of Ruth Eckerd Hall, Inc., announced today that the 2016-17 season has set a new record for gross ticket sales for the season that started October 1, 2016 and ended September 30, 2017.  The $18,479,017 in gross ticket sales represents 414 ticketed events, including 88 sell-outs and 285,022 paid attendance.  The previous record was held in the 2015-16 season when Ruth Eckerd Hall ticketed events grossed $16,949,350.

Ruth Eckerd Hall was named #4 in the United States of theatre venues of 2,500 seats or less by industry publication Pollstar (#24 in the world). The Capitol Theatre was named #1 Florida club venue by industry trade publication Pollstar (#70 in the world).  Additionally, Pollstar named Ruth Eckerd Hall On The Road #31 in the United States of concert promoters (#54 in the world).   These rankings were based on concert and event grosses from January to September 2017.  In August, entertainment industry trade publication Venues Today announced that Ruth Eckerd Hall is ranked #10 nationally of venues with 2,001 to 5,000 seats during the magazine’s 15-year period from July 2002 to June 2017.

Ruth Eckerd Hall On The Road which books and produces concert and events in venues throughout Tampa Bay and across the United States including the 38th Annual Clearwater Jazz Holiday starring The Temptations and The Four Tops (October 19), Scott Bradlee’s Post Modern Jukebox (October 20), Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald (October 21) and The Avett Brothers (October 22) and Sammy Hagar and Night Ranger (November 14) at Coachman Park in downtown Clearwater and Jonny Lang (January 18) at the Palladium in St. Petersburg.

Ruth Eckerd Hall continues its tradition of presenting a wide variety of performances including Roger Daltrey (October 30), Lindsey Buckingham & Christine McVie (November 9), Tim Allen (November 16), Johnny Mathis (January 12), The Moody Blues (January 13), Jackson Browne (January 18), Diana Krall (January 30), Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons (March 2 and 3) who will be celebrating their 30th performance at Ruth Eckerd Hall performing with a symphony orchestra and many more.

Ruth Eckerd Hall continues its partnership with the Tampa Bay Times presenting the Broadway Series which includes Tony Award®-winning musicals Cabaret (February 22), Jersey Boys (3 performances March 30-31), Rogers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella (April 6 & 7), A Chorus Line (April 21) and KINKY BOOTS (April 23).

The always popular Adults At Leisure Series presented by AmeriLife returns with performances of A Carpenters’ Christmas (December 19), Carefree: Dancin’ with Fred and Ginger (February 11), Sandy Hackett’s Rat Pack Show (February 18), Stayin’ Alive – The World’s #1 Tribute To The Bee Gees (February 25), 110 Years of Broadway (March 12) and more. 

Prior to performances at Ruth Eckerd Hall, enjoy brunch, lunch or dinner at Upstage Dining, conveniently located just steps away from the theater. Doors open two hours prior to showtime so that guests may dine at their leisure.

The new Murray Theatre at Ruth Eckerd Hall presents direct from Daryl’s House,  Mutlu with special guest Ella Jet (November 18), the world premiere of the Mickey Spillane murder-mystery Mike Hammer’s Encore for Murder starring WKRP in Cincinnati’s Gary Sandy (January 18-21 and January 25-28) and more to be announced soon.  Hat Trick Productions returns this season with three new productions, Night of the Living Dead, What the Bellhop Saw and Waiting for Godot

The Capitol Theatre, located in downtown Clearwater’s Cleveland Street District, was constructed in 1921 and is one of Florida’s oldest operating theaters. In 2016, industry trade publication Pollstar named the Capitol Theatre the #42 club venue in the world and within that same ranking, the only Florida venue in the Top 50.  In 2013, the theater underwent a complete $10 million renovation and is the catalyst for downtown development.

The Murray Theatre, located at Ruth Eckerd Hall, originally opened in 2003 as part of an education expansion of the Marcia P. Hoffman School of the Arts. Through the generous support of Ray and Nancy Murray, a state grant and Capital Campaign donors, a $1.5 million renovation was completed, which includes state-of-the-art lighting and sound and a one-of-a-kind hand-painted mural depicting music, theater and dance. The Murray Theatre offers affordable, accessible, high-quality experiences to audiences of all ages.

The Marcia P. Hoffman School of the Arts is one of the largest providers of arts education and outreach in the nation.  Reaching more than 35,000 students annually and providing over 80,000 hours of high-caliber arts experiences with programs encompassing three distinct arts education divisions:  presenting, community engagement and outreach and instruction in jazz, dance, drama, instrumental music, musical theater, voice and technical theater. Each division reaches students of all ages and abilities on the Ruth Eckerd Hall campus and off-site in local schools, hospitals, community centers, specialty residences and other arts centers throughout the Tampa Bay area and the State of Florida.

Ruth Eckerd Hall On The Road books and produces a number of off-site events including Friends of Music Member Appreciation Concerts, Blast Friday, the Tampa Bay Rays Summer Concert Series, the Clearwater Jazz Holiday and events in other partner venues including Coachman Park in Clearwater, the Palladium, the Tampa Theatre and the Amalie Arena.   In 2016, industry trade publication Pollstar named Ruth Eckerd Hall On The Road #34 in the world and #19 in the United States of concert promoters.
