Mickey Thomas is the powerful voice behind STARSHIP’s rise to prominence throughout the 1980s. Thomas first gained widespread attention in 1976 as the lead singer on the Elvin Bishop Band’s hit Fooled Around and Fell in Love. In 1979, he joined Jefferson Starship as lead vocalist following the departures of Grace Slick and Marty Balin, contributing to a string of hits including Jane, No Way Out, Find Your Way Back, Stranger, and Layin’ It on the Line. When the group rebranded as STARSHIP in 1985, they reached even greater heights, recording three #1 hits: We Built This City, Sara, and Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now. The latter, featured in the film Mannequin, earned an Academy Award® nomination.
