ANNUAL SUMMER MOVIE SERIES BRINGS FAMILY FUN
Through the enduring support of our Ruth Eckerd Hall giving community, the popular Summer Movie Series returned to the Nancy and David Bilheimer Capitol Theatre for a record-breaking season of fun!
This year’s low-cost series, which ran from July through August, offered scores of community members of all ages the opportunity to enjoy classic movies at the historic movie-house turned performing space for just $5 dollars a ticket. Movie goers enjoyed classic films such as, Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, The Goonies, Toy Story, Tommy, Psycho and Clueless.
Accessibility to the arts has been a goal of the series since 2019. “It’s really nice to see folks that haven’t had the opportunity to visit us for a show to experience the theatre”, says Brianna Roberts, Director of Operations. “They are always interested in the cool history of the building, and we see a lot of young adults bringing their kids to see their childhood favorites when we show them. I love those moments!”.
Built in 1921, the Nancy and David Bilheimer Capitol Theatre was first established as a motion picture house and described in the local Clearwater news as, “One of the most beautifully finished playhouses in the South”. Over 100 years later, the theatre currently acts as a nationally recognized music venue, operated by Ruth Eckerd Hall in downtown Clearwater.
The 2025 Summer Movie Series was proudly sponsored by The Dove 105.5, Creative Loafing, and our valued Ruth Eckerd Hall members. Thank you to our incredible member community for creating unforgettable arts experiences in our backyard.
