The Marcia P. Hoffman School Of The Arts Presents The Award-Winning Musical Roald Dahl’s Charlie And The Chocolate Factory

The Marcia P. Hoffman School of the Arts at Ruth Eckerd Hall presents the
award-winning musical Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on Friday, July 31 at 7pm and Saturday, August 1 at 2pm & 7pm on Ruth Eckerd Hall’s main stage. Tickets are on sale now.

“What better way to celebrate the ‘pure imagination’ of Willy Wonka’s world than to create a gathering of talent – acting, dancing, and singing side-by-side? Building on the strong tradition of community theater in our area, we are excited to bring together local performers and production artists on the Ruth Eckerd Hall main stage for one unforgettable experience. Whether you join us behind the curtain, in the spotlight, or seated in the audience, don’t miss this very special production,” said Marcia P. Hoffman School of the Arts Vice President & Chief Education and Community Engagement Officer Sharon Reid-Kane, Ed.D.

Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will be directed by Jack Holloway and Music Director Yohance Wicks. The productions will have over 50 participants, including cast, technical crew and ensemble.

“The cast is a melting pot of actors ranging in age from 7 to over 70,” said Wicks.
Based on the famous novel by Roald Dahl, Charlie And The Chocolate Factory features an original score composed by Marc Shaiman with lyrics by Shaiman and Scott Wittman and a book by David Greig. The score also pays homage to the Leslie Bricusse/Anthony Newley score from the 1971 film with songs from the motion picture including The Candy Man, I've Got a Golden Ticket, Oompa Loompa Song and Pure Imagination.

The world-famous Willy Wonka is opening the gates to his mysterious factory…but only to a lucky few. Young Charlie Bucket and four other golden ticket winners will embark on a life-changing journey through Wonka’s world of pure imagination including chocolate waterfalls, nutty squirrels and the great glass elevator, all to be revealed by Wonka's army of curious Oompa-Loompas. “We’re excited to bring the magic of Willy Wonka’s world to life while showcasing the incredible talent in our community,” said Dr. Reid-Kane in an interview with the Tampa Bay Times.
