Verdi: Requiem
Under the direction of Michael Francis, Verdi’s Requiem becomes a full-body experience. From the very first notes — a hushed, almost fragile prayer — you can sense the scale of what’s coming. And then it hits: the “Dies Irae,” a thunderclap of sound that feels like it shakes the room. Joining the orchestra is the Master Chorale of Tampa Bay, bringing immense emotional weight to Verdi’s towering choral writing. At its core, the Requiem is a meditation on life, death and what might come after, but it never feels distant or abstract. It’s immediate, visceral and deeply personal. One moment pulls you inward. The next takes your breath away. It’s something you feel. Long after the final note fades.
